The Catechism Committee Launches Summer Program for Youth Groups
This summer season, the Catechism Committee of the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil organized a series of lectures and activities under the title “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it” Luke 11:28. This Summer camp was delivered for Middle and High school parishioners, aiming to raise their awareness about Social Media.
Using the guide written by Fr. Albert Hisham, “I Face You”, Fr. Albert held several talks regarding many topics throughout this series. Fr. Albert emphasized many important subjects such as, discovering the secret to Social Media communication; privacy settings on Social Media; the dangers of pornography; hiding behind Social Media accounts; time management, and more. His booklet consisted of a short continuous story portraying the protagonist, Tim, as a teen who discovers Social Media in his daily life through different encounters with others. This work also included prayers, meditations and Q&A’s for students, and teachers.
The summer camp aimed to “have youth face themselves and others, and evaluate their actions when using Social Media platforms”.
The camp program included talks, discussion groups, Q&As and entertaining activities.
The camp was held from July 8-13 for Middle school groups and from July 15-20 for High school groups. On the last day of the program, H. G. Archbishop Bashar Warda celebrated the Divine Liturgy for all participants at the Parish of Sts. Peter and Paul the Apostles, which is also the Catechism Center within the Archdiocese.
