Construction – Church Cemetery
Description

In the aftermath of ISIS occupation, the spiritual and cultural fabric of Christian communities in the Nineveh Plain was deeply wounded—not only through the destruction of homes and schools but also through the desecration of sacred sites, including cemeteries. Recognizing the importance of honoring the memory of the departed and restoring a sense of dignity to grieving families, the Chaldean Church prioritized the restoration of Christian cemeteries in Teleskof as a vital component of community healing. With the generous financial support of the Knights of Columbus Charities, a total of USD 281,988 was allocated in 2019 to restore and secure the Christian cemeteries in Teleskof. The project involved the reconstruction of boundary walls, entrance gates, pathways, and proper burial sections, ensuring that the cemetery reflects the reverence owed to it and meets the pastoral and cultural needs of the returning community. This project stands as a testimony to the deep-rooted Christian heritage of the town and the global solidarity of faithful partners who support the preservation of life, dignity, and legacy in Iraq’s vulnerable but resilient Christian communities. By restoring the final resting place of loved ones, the initiative brought peace and continuity to families reclaiming life after conflict.

Construction – Housing and Cultural Infrastructure
Description

Following the devastation brought by ISIS, the rebuilding of Christian towns like Teleskof has extended beyond physical infrastructure to the urgent need for cultural and spiritual renewal. In response, the Chaldean Church initiated a plan to construct a dedicated center in Teleskof for cultural preservation—a space where traditions, language, and heritage could be safeguarded for future generations. Thanks to the generous support of Knights of Columbus Charities, an amount of USD 367,488 was secured in 2019 for the construction of this facility. The project included the development of a multipurpose cultural center that integrates housing spaces for staff and facilitators, classrooms, and community gathering halls. It serves as a platform for intergenerational learning, Aramaic language preservation, arts, and the promotion of local identity rooted in centuries of Christian presence. The center plays a pivotal role in strengthening the social fabric of Teleskof, offering hope and vision to a community emerging from crisis. It is a testament to the belief that resilience is not only built through walls, but through the preservation of culture, memory, and faith.
