The Conference on Personal Status Law for Christians in Iraq Begins
On May 27, 2024, The Conference on Personal Status Law for Christians in Iraq was launched, at the premises of the Catholic University in Erbil.
His Excellency, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Nechirvan Barzani; the Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and the World, Cardinal Louis Rafael Sako; the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Erbil, Archbishop Bashar Warda; representative of the Chairman of the Federal Supreme Judicial Council, Mr. Ahmed Jaseb Akla; and the Head of the Office of Endowments for Christian, Yazidi, Sabian Mandaean religions, Dr. Ramy Joseph Aghajan, attended the conference and delivered their speeches at this occasion.
Additionally, reverent bishops, clergy, judges lawyers and law specialists, were present at the Conference.
The Conference aims to raise awareness of the need for a Personal Status Law for Christians in Iraq, and supports concerned parties to achieve this project.
Moreover, following the Opening remarks, the First Session was delivered by Judge Hadi Aziz, on “experience in the personal status of non-Muslims”.
