The Catholic University in Erbil Celebrates the Fourth Commencement Ceremony

The Catholic University in Erbil celebrated the Fourth Commencement Ceremony for the Graduating Class of 2024 on October 1st, 2024.

The celebration started with the students and faculty procession; followed by a speech by H.G. CUE Chancellor and Chairman of Board of Trustees, Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda. Throughout his speech, H.G. Archbishop Warda emphasized: “…we are dedicated to the story and legacy of each individual student.” H.G. Archbishop Warda also announced:” I’m excited to announce that we have built a professional team to lead the university toward global recognition by applying for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation…this accreditation means we are operating at a global level.” The Archbishop also announced the opening of the department of Oriental Studies at the Catholic University in Erbil which will have a special curriculum conducted by scholars and members from different Eastern Churches.

Following, His Holiness Mar Awa III Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East delivered his address, stating: “Many think that because it is a graduation, it is actually the end; but that could not be farther from the truth. It is called a Commencement because from this very point you will now begin to live your life to the fullest, putting into action all that you have learned and acquired thus far.” His Holiness congratulated the graduates advising them not to be afraid of any future encounters or obstacles they face.

After the address, CUE’s President, Dr. Nazar Shabila, delivered his congratulations to the students and conferred their Bachelor degree certificates.

The Fourth Commencement ceremony at CUE for the Class of 2024 was attended by reverend bishops, clergy members and religious sisters; as well as a number of government officials, consuls, and civil organizations. The celebration was also attended by graduates’ families and guests.
