Spiritual & Educational Catechism Camp

From July 8 to 13, 2024, 250 catechism students aged 13 to 15 gathered at St. Peter and Paul Church in Erbil, Iraq, for the Chaldean Diocese of Erbil’s Spiritual and Educational Catechism Camp. Organized by the Catechetical Committee and led by Father Albert Hisham, the camp provided a special opportunity for middle school youth to connect with peers in a setting centered on faith, learning, and fun.

Father Albert opened the camp with warm welcoming words, emphasizing the importance of community and teamwork. He reminded everyone that the camp was about more than just fun. It was a time to grow together in faith and love.

The program included workshops on personal growth and spirituality, focusing on the power of prayer and reflection in daily life. Alongside sports, Bible study, educational competitions, prayers, confessions, and a closing Mass, the camp balanced fun and faith throughout each day. Father Albert led workshops on real-life challenges, encouraging open discussions about how faith helps navigate life’s ups and downs and the importance of serving others.

By the end of the camp, participants and their families expressed how meaningful the experience was, not only as a fun break but as a time to grow closer to God and one another. As the camp ended, there was a shared promise to meet again for future events that build faith, friendship, and community.
