It’s the time for the world to hear our voice’: Catholic news agency in Iraq to serve persecuted Christians
After years of living in a region where the voice of Christians has been silenced; the Catholic community of Iraq has found strength in the founding of ACI MENA. Standing for the Association for Catholic Information in the Middle East and Northern Africa; the new press office was built in collaboration with the efforts of the Chaldean Catholic Archbishop Bashar Warda of Erbil, Iraq. Present for the opening ceremony of the ACI MENA office, Warda shared his excitement at this momentous move for his people who have faced persecution most recently during the 2014-2018 war with ISIS. “This initiative came to strengthen the existence of Christians in Iraq after years of persecution; it’s the time for the world to hear our voice.” The Archbishop also described the new agency as a beacon of hope for persecuted Christians who will no longer be forgotten or anonymous
in their suffering and witness to the Gospel. In his opening remarks of congratulations to the ACI MENA team, Michael Warsaw, the CEO of EWTN shared the hope which is held in this new office with the words ¨”We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the heroism and faithfulness of our brothers and sisters in this region. ACI MENA intends to be your voice.”
