Good Friday: The Liturgy of the Passion at the Archdiocese’s Cathedral

His Excellency Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda Presides Over Good Friday Service in Ankawa

This afternoon, Friday, His Excellency Archbishop Mar Bashar Matti Warda presided over the Good Friday celebration and the Rite of the Deposition from the Cross at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Ankawa. He was accompanied by Fr. Savio Handula, parish priest, along with Fr. Louis Qaqos, Fr. San Hikmat, and a large congregation of faithful.

After completing the prayers of the Good Friday Liturgy, H.G. Mar Bashar Warda delivered a sermon reflecting on the profound meanings of forgiveness, repentance, and forgiving others, as revealed in the Holy Bible. He emphasized the importance of opening our hearts before God, confessing our sins, and receiving the forgiveness and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ—key messages conveyed through the Scripture readings of the day.

The churches of Ankawa were filled with worshippers on this special occasion, which holds deep spiritual significance for the community. The faithful were keen to attend the services, visit the churches, and pray before the tomb of Christ until late into the night.
