Archdiocesan Schools Visit Nanakali Hospital to Deliver Lenten Donations

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that “Giving alms to the poor is a witness to fraternal charity: it is also a work of justice pleasing to God. 2462”.

Hence, as an act of fraternal charity, the schools of the Archdiocese of Erbil have called for a donations campaign during the season of Lent, where every student prepared an empty container and decided to add money to it during the Lenten days. After Lent and the Easter season, the collected amount was delivered to the responsible committee, with an amount of 13, 130, 000 IQD. Therefore, on June 13th, 2023, a delegation representing the schools of the Archdiocese of Erbil visited Nanakali Hospital (for blood diseases and cancer) to make the donation and deliver the given amount, that it may be used for the provision of medications and care for the patients.

The Archdiocese of Erbil encourages such initiatives by its schools. As we seek to provide an education for our students that will enable them to act, lead and make decisions with a virtuous and charitable approach; to have a feeling of solidarity and fraternity with others especially the poor and those who are in need.

In all things I have shown you that by so toiling one must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35).
