Under the theme “Journeying Towards Hope,” the Spiritual & Educational Catechism Camp for high school students was officially launched.
The first day of the Spiritual & Educational Catechism Camp for high school students was launched on the afternoon of Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. The camp is organized by the Central Committee for Christian Education in the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil and runs from July 21 to 26.
The day began with students gathering in the church courtyard, where they were welcomed and given name badges. Everyone then entered the church to participate in the opening prayer, followed by a welcoming speech by His Excellency Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda. He encouraged all participants to make the most of this time dedicated to spiritual growth and fraternal cooperation.
Afterward, the group moved to the church hall to begin the first station of the Journey of Hope.
“The Journey Together”
Led by Sister Nazek from the Dominican Order
This session explored the meaning of “being together” through the concept of UBUNTU, a South African philosophy emphasizing humanity and the deep interconnection among individuals and the surrounding social and material world. According to UBUNTU, a person is part of a whole, and their actions impact others. The lesson emphasized that our journey should be one of solidarity rather than competition—moving toward a common goal together, rather than individually.
The session was followed by a group activity titled “Journey of Those Who Hope in the Lord”, and a break. The students then participated in various fun games and competitions in the courtyard of the Christian Education Center.
